Canon's EOS C70: A Compact Cinema Camera with RF Mount

Canon has introduced its first RF mount cinema camera, the EOS C70. This compact and lightweight device features a Dual Gn Output Sensor DGO, ND filters, Mini XLR audio inputs, timecode functionality, and is Netflix approved. The Canon Super 35mm DGO sensor allows for dynamic image capture with up to 16+ stops of dynamic range.

The Native RF Mount

The EOS C70 is the first camera in Canon's Cinema EOS series that utilizes a native RF mount. This modern lens system offers high-speed electronics and shorter flange distance, making it ideal for lens design innovation and performance improvement. The RF mount compatibility allows EF lenses to be attached with an optional Mount Adapter EF–EOS R 0.71x sold separately, providing a one-stop gn in light transmission without cropping.

Recording Formats

The EOS C70 supports a range of file formats suitable for various professionals and applications. It records in XF-AVC and MP4 internally to SD cards at 4K, 2K, and full HD resolutions with the option for slow motion up to 120fps in Super 35mm mode or 180fps in S16 mode. The HDMI output is also avlable for recording onto external devices, catering to color grading needs and broadcast requirements.

The EOS C70 is designed to work seamlessly with both RF and EF lenses using the Mount Adapter EF–EOS R 0.71x. This adapter ensures a light transmission gn of one stop without cropping the field of view when using adapted EF lenses.
