Katelyn James offers a detled breakdown of essential Canon EOS R6 focus settings that can help you master and achieve sharp subject tracking every time. Her approach is engaging and enlightening; she delivers her explanations in an easy-to-understand manner and provides valuable insights that put things into perspective.
When transitioning from the Canon 5D Mark IV to the R6 last year, I found myself diving deep into the camera's menus to explore its advanced options. The wedding season didn't allow much time for experimentation with these new settings compared to my previous experience with the Canon 5D Mark IV where certn configurations were standard and worked reliably.
Katelyn James highlights focus modes that she uses frequently and explns her rationale behind them, which resonates well with real-world usage scenarios. Implementing some of her tips has already improved my photography workflow, especially noting how setting eye tracking to off the * button is genius compared to its previous configuration on a switch mode next to the shutter.
I've been utilizing most out-of-the-box options for the R6, but I've recently incorporated James' advice into my routine. The servo mode being off as brides and grooms don't sit still a humorous observation!, orientation-based AF mode she suggests is also an insightful approach I hadn't tried earlier.
The R6 has become a staple in my photography process, and the wealth of customizable options provided by Canon has only enhanced its utility for me. The sensor size does limit large-format printed landscape images but having another EOS-R with a 30 Megapixel sensor ensures versatility across different project needs.
Now considering the future of mirrorless cameras, I'm torn between the R5 or wting for the R5 Mark II. Time will tell which direction Canon will take with its technology advancements and how it influences my purchasing decision. For now, maximizing the current setup's capabilities is my focus.
